Technorati favorite it! コーヒー買える? [Suntory | BOSS COFFEE - Super Blend]

This is probably my favourite brand of coffee in can. Super Blend is a great coffee, full strength black with just a touch of sugar. Although I do prefer a dash of milk too, (I'll hopefully track down a BOSS Cafe au Lait at some point to review).

In the meantime, sit back kick up your feet and enjoy a soothing koohii (coffee) experience. This mighty little can delivers the caffeine hit you desperately require, there's no messing about. The coffee is full flavoured and rich and is probably about as good as coffee gets straight from a can.

The can features a prominent logo of a refined gentlemen smoking a pipe, the look in his eyes is that of a man who's taken charge of his life and succeeded, the Boss. He's done the hard yards and deserves his Super Blend coffee.

As asianbev mentioned before, coffee wars in j-land are as fierce as cola wars in the US and elsewhere, so it's good to know which one to get. BOSS coffee is brewed by Suntory of Japan who have a reputation for quality liquor as well. You may have spotted Bill Murray doing a stint for Suntory in the film "Lost in Translation". There's a clip over at dorinkuTV, hover over the video player and select it from the playlist scrolling at the bottom, there's also a BOSS Coffee TV Ad for your enjoyment.

Suntory offer a range of different coffees and I hope to take a look at some of the others in the future.

  1. I see a brand of chilled coffee at Asian stores on occasion called Hello, Boss Is this line of coffee related to regular Boss coffee?

  2. not sure about that, but probably yes, there seems to be this trend to introduce a hello kitty version of popular drinks, pick one up if you see it again!

  3. Update: Hello, Boss coffee is a rebranding of Taiwan's King Car Food's Mr. Brown Coffee. It must be popular in Asia to give coffee a name with boss in it. Maybe as you said in your review, it's a status symbol. "I've really made it in life. I now drink coffee."

  4. I'd say it's more likely that they're trying to cash in on the success of Suntory BOSS.

  5. You've convinced me. Next time I'm at the store, I'm going to pick up all the types of Boss I can find. If anything can beat Let's Be Mild, it's Boss.

This is brining up a lot of questions for the future J-beverage book we'll be writing.

Have you noticed Japan's obsession with indicating how many milligrams of vitamin C is in all the fruit beverages and all the candy?

  6. I wouldn't mind reviewing the BOSS Cafe au Lait as mentioned in the article as it's my all time favourite, but there's heaps of different BOSSes so go for it!

I have noticed the vitamin C thing, it's pretty funny, but at least you know you're getting a precies dosage of 1000cc of C! It really helps when you're feeling down in the big smoke in j-rando.
